Organization: J6, Command, Control, Communications and Computers/Cyber Directorate, Joint Chiefs of Staff, Department of Defense
The mission of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) J6 is to assist the Commander of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (CJCS) in providing best military advice while advancing cyber defense, joint/coalition interoperability and command and control (C2) capabilities required by the Joint Force to preserve the Nation’s security.
The J6 represents the Joint Warfighter in support of the command, control, communications, and computers/cyber (C4) requirements validation and capability development processes while ensuring joint interoperability.
Business Challenge: Legacy System Modernization
JCS needed to replace outdated Joint Staff (JS) Action Processing system (JSAP-M) based on OpenText Metastorm to a next generation processing system (JSAP-NextGen).
JSAP is the primary vehicle by which DoD leadership provides input to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the Secretary of Defense on military matters. JSAP subject matters often later become topics discussed by the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) and Operations Deputies (OPSDEPs).
The JSAP-NextGen program needed to streamline and standardize processes while integrating the new system with a Department of Defense Directive (DoD) 5015-.2 compliant Records Management System, supporting Correspondence and Task Management, and migrating to an enterprise data center.
BizFlow Solution: JSAP Nextgen
JCS selected BizFlow as the digital business platform to deliver JSAP-Nextgen.
BizFlow and other team members streamlined and consolidated seven workflows into three core processes: Joint Staff Actions, Information Requests (e.g., FOIA, Declassifications), and Awards. Applications support ad-hoc tasking, internal collaboration, and external email correspondence for each type of request.
More than 5000 people across military services and civilian agencies take part in responding to daily actions.
