The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) of the Department of Transportation (DOT) is focused on improving safety by reducing crashes, injuries, and fatalities involving motor carriers. The FMCSA has a budget of about $500M with about 1,000 employees.
FMCSA manages a very large and sophisticated enterprise system architecture. Its sheer complexity and inherent constraints invariably lead to change and enhancements requests. Disparate change management applications did not provide organizational management adequate control over and visibility into these requests to ensure proper approvals and timely completion. FMCSA IT wanted to more effectively and efficiently respond to client requirements by centralizing change management.
BizFlow BPM Solution
With DOT approval, FMCSA launched the Integrated Change Management Process Reengineering (ICMPR) project. Teams assessed multiple products before selecting BizFlow. FMCSA now uses BizFlow to develop and deploy a Web 2.0 application automating change request submission, approval and roll-out. The solution integrates disparate issue-tracking systems (e.g., Volpe’s HEAT, UA’s Redmine, and SAIC’s Mantis) into a central management dashboard with reporting capability. BizFlow provides metrics for reporting and continuous improvement. BizFlow empowers process owners and business analysts to design and manage business processes with improved agility, while enabling process participants - employees, managers, customers, and partners – to perform their tasks more efficiently. BizFlow extends the IT infrastructure to streamline other business processes throughout the agency and creates value in improved productivity, accountability and compliance.
